I am a 36 year old woman, and I have a problem which seems somewhat unusual. In friendships and even with strangers, I am often the target of controlling women. I have not had this problem in relationships with men. Women who are complete strangers come up to me and tell me "who I am" or what I should do, and almost all my female friends eventually become very domineering with me, trying to tell me what to think, feel, say and do. All of my life, I have been somewhat timid and shy, but in recent years, I have overcome this to a substantial degree, which is why it surprises me that I still have the problem. I know I can have a somewhat childlike demeanor. I feel that my demeanor is fine and that my social presentation is appropriate, yet domineering women are still very aggressive toward me. I can be very assertive in telling them to bug off, but they simply don't listen. I have the feeling they think they are doing me some kind of favor. Their attitudes are so innapropriate. It's enormously frustrating! Am I the only one this happens to? I'd be interested in feed-back. Weird problem, huh?

That's a weird one, Cass. When I have a friend that starts that type of behavior, knowing what's best for me, I drop em like a bag of potatoes!!
I've been through too much in my life to have some nimrod think they can fix me. I have friends that I have had a long time but they know who I am and how I am. They accept me and they know that I try to take care of my business.
I don't suffer fools gladly.

this is an interesting problem...have you asked any of your friends (male or female) about insite to this? would you feel comfortable doing so?
