Hello again, Is there a difference between zoloft and paxil?? Another thing, how long would I need to be on the zoloft??? Is it up to me or pdoc??

Rose - Paxil and Zoloft are similar, but different people respond differently to both medications (probably due to slightly different biochemical and biomechanical set-ups in everyone). Paxil is said to have an anti-anxiety component as well, so you see it used more in panic disorder (Zoloft should also work for panic, but I have never seen it used for this disorder, yet) Both drugs are used in depression and OCD. Zoloft is also a little harder on the tummy.The length of time one needs to stay on an antidepressant is variable. It depends on the person, severity of the depression and type of depression. The books say to stay on antidepressants for at least 6 months to prevent relapse. In the real world I have found that most people need at least 9 - 12 months of treatment to prevent relapses. Let your doctor decide when you should come off the drug. Sometimes an independent observer can see things in a patient that the patient themself does not see. Good luck with treatment - Cam W.
