Has anyone had any experience ordering medications from overseas into Canada?..I'm interested in the protocol/pitfalls of doing this.
Thanks.

Paul - To order a drug that is not approved in Canada, your doctor has to write to Health Canada - Health Protection Branch (I believe) and request that he be given authorization to import it. Your doctor will have to give reasons why you need this drug and why currently available treatments will not suffice. You will also need a source to obtain the drug.Another way to get a unapproved drug is to find out if there are any drug trials ongoning in Canada and see if you can join them. The manufacturer of the drug can probably tell you this. The only downside to this is that you could get the placebo or comparative drug if you meet the drug trial criteria and are accepted into the study.
If you try to import the drug on your own, it may get stopped at the border by customs and that will lead to hassles and you will probably have wasted your money.
Hope this helps - Cam W.

I do not know the rules in Canada or how thorough Customs is. In the USA I have had no problem. Most packages arrive looking like Customs inspected the contents, and then placed a green sticker on the outside specifying "supplements".
Sometimes suppliers have an extra fee for 'discreet shipping'. They package the pills, the label, and the flattened box in regular mail so as not to draw attention. I have found no suppliers that will engage in this practice with controlled substances--since that is prison material--but with simple things like Prozac or Adrafinil and such, it might be worth the extra discreet shipping fee. You'll probably have to spend some time trying to locate all potential Adrafinil suppliers in a net search and then see who has discreet shipping options.
If you can get a prescription, and send it to the supplier, they can put a label on the shipping box that says something like "Medication for personal use. Prescription enclosed." In the USA, Customs hasn't even bothered to open a shipping box that had that label on it, in my own experience.
And who knows, a non-discreet shipment might get through customs without problem. Happens in the USA all the time. In a worse case scenario--if the shipment was seized--you would be out about $30. No huge loss that might contribute to worsened depression. :-) JohnL
