I am taking 2.5mg of zyprexa for rumination on top of zoloft. The problem is that the zyprexa carries over into the next day and I am a zombie. I take the zyprexa roughly three hours before bed.
I know that seroquel has a shorter half-life then zyprexa and I was wondering whether the sedation with the seroquel would be less because of the shorter half-life.
Does anyone have any experience with these antipsychotics?

I think you're on the right track by taking Zyprexa hours before you go to bed. Instead of 3 hours before bed, try taking it as early as you can. I take 5 mg of Zyprexa about 6-7 hours before I go to bed and no longer have any hangover problems, plus I sleep great now. If you'd told me when I first began taking Zyprexa at 2.5 mg that I'd one day be able to take 5 mg of it 7 hours before I went to bed, I wouldn't have believed you. At the beginning, I felt so drugged that I didn't want to continue taking it. I'm glad I stuck it out because it's been very helpful for me.

How long have you been taking the Zyprexa? I found that the sedation went away after about three weeks. I take 7.5 mg after dinner and sleep well without the hangover in the morning. It just took a little while to adjust.

I have been taking the olanzapine for almost a week. Yesterday I decided to discontinue its use because of the weight gain problem associated with the med.

Andre - Not everyone gains weight with Zyprexa, but it is far more than the 6% that the drug company reports (if I had to guess, I'd say that about 75% do get some weight gain). Very careful management of diet and exercise can help to minimize this side effect. The weight gain does plateau after about 8 or 9 months of taking the drug. The only real problem that I have noticed is that, like the SSRIs, the better the response to Zyprexa, the more likely you are to have weight gain. The sedation side effects usually subside after about a month.
Just a note - Cam
