All I really want is a medicine that can stop my constant worrying, my constant self-criticism, my obsessional worries about future events and myself. Just anxiety and worry. I even worry about when my anxiety will be at its worst. I guess the best way to describe my situation is over-selfconsciousness.
I have ADD and GAD, and would like to know what medicines turn off that little voice in your head, creating doubt at every turn. I've tried Xanax, which helps with the physical feelings of anxiety, but not the mental ones. Wellbutrin seemed to help at first a lot, during that energy boost phase that wears off. Alcohol helps a lot. I don't want any medicines that will make me feel cocooned, or very sedated, or anything like that.
I'm just tearing my hair out about all this medication bullshit. I'm sorry.
P.S. I took ritalin 5 mg 3x a day which helped immensely with the ADD. I'm now taking 300mg of Wellbutrin and still waiting to see if it'll do anything. Oh, and I tried 20mg of Paxil for a while with unacceptable results.

Jack. Aside from medications, sometimes cognitive therapy works well for obsessive worrying. Have you tried this? If not, it may be something you might want to look into. Shellie

The thing that worked best for me and got rid of my obsessive thoughts is Zyprexa. It really cleared up my thinking although it does have other side effect problems like weight gain and sedation. You may want to consider it or another atypical antipsychotic like Risperdal.

Hi Jack - Celexa is working wonders for me. I used to be anxious all the time; felt like I had numerous antennae out to make sure everything & everybody was okay etc. I've improved in that direction very much. Am taking 20 mg at bedtime.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm not really willing to risk antipsychotics at this point, and no, I haven't tried CBT. As for SSRI's, I did try Paxil, which did work somewhat, but not the way I wanted it to. I think I've been a little hasty regarding the Wellbutrin, as it is helping significantly in retrospect. I just started augmenting it with Remeron as of yesterday. Let's see how this new combo works out.

Hmmm.....
The obsessional thoughts normally are helped by
AD's as first line and then things like Buspar or benzos. May take a while to find the right AD. I like atavin, it stops the annoyning voices of pointless worry. You might try Buspar, too. Also you mentioned that the Xanax stopped the physical
but not the mental anxiety; this is generally oppisite in most people. ADD'ers (I'm one) often have paradoxical reactions so I am not questioning
what you say, just thinking out loud. Inderal, a heart med and beta blocker, is effective to calm physical anxiety, you might give it a try. It leaves me physically calm. It might leave you mentally calm. Do stick with trying the AD's, they can fix lots of things and improve focus in ADD. You might try some 2 nd line meds that I mentioned, along with the an AD; Buspar, Inderal, other benzos, and the things others have mentioned.Non meds stuff that has really worked for me are TM, also try any meditation form or yoga. The cognative thearpys are excellent. Biofeedback would be another possibility. Maybe Ti Chi
Things like ADD are very complex and deeply part of who we are so meds alone can only do so much. You need to pick a non med thearpy that intrests you and try it. Just like trying AD's you need to find the one that works for you.
