I have been on medication for about 8 years now. I have tried all the SSRI's - Effexor, Serzone, Zoloft, Paxil,Wellbutrin and they all gave me insomnia, nervousness, agitation, aggressive. I have also been on Desyrel, Imipramine and Doxepin and Elavil.
The doxepin I have been augmenting with the elavil hoping to lessen the side effects of the elavil (weight gain!!!) for about 4-5 weeks now. If any side effects were going to go away or stay, I would think this time frame would show me what I can expect with this combo, right?I have been taking the doxepin (50 mg.) with 75 mg. elavil. I have slowly gone to 50 mg. elavil but am finding that I am even hungrier now with this combo than when I was just on elavil!
I also had a prescription for trimipramine and filled it yesterday. I'm hoping that I can get away from the cravings and weight gain. Does this tricyclic help with sleep the same as elavil or is it more towards the energizing side of the TCAs? I realize that the meds affect everyone differently. I took 25 mg. trimipramine and 60 mg. elavil last night. I felt a bit funny but this could also be psychosymatic (sp??). If this drug is more energizing than elavil, maybe taking it earlier in the day would help?
I have tried getting off the medication but within a week, the depression comes back so I know that it is definately a chemical imbalance we are dealing with here.
So, in closing, if anyone has any help or ideas concerning trimipramine, it would be great if you could let me know your thoughts.
Thanks

Good luck, Shelby.I am becoming interested in trimipramine myself. What were your doctor's reasons for choosing this drug? I kind of like the fact that it made you feel a bit weird. It may indicate that it is doing something different than the other two tricyclics. I would take this to be a good sign.
I'll be praying for you.

Actually, I was the one who asked the doctor if I could give it a try. I have tried the SSRIs but had bad insomnia, etc... with them. I'm hoping that this will work. I'd like to take Remeron but live in Canada so do not have it here. So, I'll keep plugging along.

Let's hope that this is a good sign cuz I'm running out of drugs to try (ha ha)!!
