a year on celexa and 40 pounds

Posted by ccass on November 14, 2000, at 16:16:17

Hi
I've been on celexa (20mg)for a year now and gained 40 pounds. Now that my depression has settled out I'm having a hard time loosing the weight, which is starting to get me depressed again. I'm seeing a dietician and trying to exercise everyday but I still don't see results, I was wondering if I went to 10 mg if that would help or maybe I should go up to 30 or 40 mg? any suggestions would be great

I have gained weight on ADs (including Celexa), but I do NOT recommend cutting your dosage. I did this and had a major rebound depression at which time my doctor switched me to effexor and lithium and I spent nearly two months in a major fog.
I'm back on 20 mg of celexa and feeling much better.

If you do reduce your meds, please let your doc know so he can monitor your progress ( or in my case... regress!)

I went and saw my doctor and we decided that we should increase my dose of celexa from 20mg to 40mg. I hope this will help, I realised that my eating is stress/depression related. So if I'm feeling better with an increase in meds hopefully the weight will come off again. When I first started celexa I did loose weight but started gaining after 6 months, about the same time I started feeling no so great.
