Hey All,
Carbohydrates are a biochemical nightmare for me. After eating them I have difficuly concentrating, words are slurred, anxiety, heart palpitations, etc. etc. Now someone on another board told me this could be due to a spike in insulin after eating. Does this sound right to you all? I have tried cutting back on carbs, and my depression always gets worse. I have much difficulty thinking clearly, and my memory gets so bad that I forget things as soon as someone tells it to me. In addition, I'm not nearly as alert, and irritability is terrible.
On the flip side, if I eat a diet high in carbs, I'm not nearly as nervous, not as depressed, can think better,(still have difficulty concentrating especially after meals). I'm more lethargic, but hey, I'm alert. I'm also not nearly as sensitive. I can take criticism much better although it's still difficult. I don't feel like everyone around me hates me.
Most of the antidepressants I have tried, make my reaction to carbs more intense especially the inability to concentrate.
Anyhow, I'm just wondering if this is typical of atypical depression? I'm getting ready to try another drug trial, and I wish it could do for me what food does.
Wishing all wellness
