Hello,
Can you get Selegiline from anywhere in the US? I mentioned it to my pdoc as a suggestion for me, and she told me to find out where to get it ...Is it still in trials or something?
Sorry for the ignorance -

> cindyHi Cindy. Selegiline is available at any pharmacy. I'm confused, are you in the US? Or are you looking for a place to order it with a prescription online? Either way, there should not be a problem.
I think your confusion has to do with trials using selegiline is patch release form. The patch has passed through the trial stage, and is now in the application process for getting FDA approval. I spoke to one doctor who was part of the team who ran trials in Boston, and he said several months ago that it should be approved within the next year.
It is the same medication, but I've heard the release from the patch feels smoother.

No, selegiline has been around for a while. The guy who headed the team who first synthesized it called it deprenyl, and the brand names its sold under in the U.S. are Eldepryl and Carbex. The online European pharmacies I've browsed sell it branded as Jumex.
It's used most often in conjuction with levodopa therapy to treat Parkinson's disease, so maybe that's why your pdoc doesn't know much about it.
You probably know all of this...and of course I still haven't answered your question. I can say that I don't know why it would be any harder to find than levodopa.
I've been curious about selegiline, too, ever since I read an interview about it with its creator in _The Psychopharmacologists III: Interviews with David Healy_. I don't have the book with me right now, though, and I don't remember his name...
But anyway, good luck. I hope someone else can give you more definitive information on where to get it.

Thanks everyone for the information...
Shelli, I do live in the U.S. -- makes me wonder why my pdoc didn't know where to get Selegiline. PellMell may be right; since it's used mostly for Parkinson's she may not know much about it. But she did seem receptive to the idea of using it for me, so she must have heard something about its antidepressive effects.
PellMell -- I don't know a thing about Selegiline, so I appreciated all the information you gave!
And Sal, thanks for the great links.
