Has anyone experienced Lithium as having an antidepressant effect as monotherapy? I don't experience mania, unless it's induced by ADs, so when I tried Depakote as monotherapy, it was very mood suppressing.

I saw an article in which Lithium prevented suicidality in unipolar outpatients, and indeed Lithium has a broad range of uses.
I've heard that mood stabilizers such as carbamazepine and lamotrigine have more of an antidepressant effect in the depression part of bipolar disorder, and carbamazepine has been especially studied in unipolars--which came out with 50% efficacy in a study I read. You may want to consider carbamazepine or lamotrigine or a combo: antidepressant + mood stabilizer (maybe carbamazepine).
Thanks for writing,
