i take something that says "alpha linolenic acid 594 mg" and "linoleic acid 144 mg"

Alpha linolenic acid is a short-chain omega-3 fatty acid.It is changed in the body to a longer form-to EPA and DHA but only to a minor extent.Better to get omega-3 fish oil instead.
