I forget who posted that Benadryl may help with Effexor withdrawal, but thank you! It is helping, although I'm very sleeeepy....at least I'm not so itchy!
This is my second day completely off, and I feel like crap. The shocks are pretty bad and I'm achey. How long am I in for this?

Fenny, did you gradually taper your dosage or are you in Cold-Turkey Land? What was your original dosage? I came off 75mg cold turkey just over 2 months ago. It took around 4 days to see a significant improvement in withdrawal symptoms; the electric shocks were gone within 10-14 days.
If you're planning to remain medication free, be prepared to ride out some peaks and troughs in the months to come. In the last 2 months I've had one bad 10-day period (last week), which was fixed with a small (temporary) dose of Xanax. Other than that, it's been good. (Mind you, I have also dramatically cut my consumption of alcohol and I am sure that this has been a factor!)
If you search the archives for `Effexor Withdrawal' you'll find a heap of posts by people who know exactly what you are going through. It might help to be reassured that you will be OK. (I remember thinking that I was going crazy or dying until I read the posts on this forum. :-) )
Good luck.

Thanks! No way I'm I going cold turkey, it took me about 7 weeks to taper to about 1/4 of a capsule per day and then I went off. I feel better mentally today, physically....no. Sigh. I've come off the same dose before, to ttc our daughter (this is my reason this time), and it wasn't this hard. I burst into tears watching a foster parents commercial, and again watching DOOL! How lame.
Anyway, thanks for the encouragement, this is a great board. And now, to take another Benadry (is this stuff addicting?)
