Hy all. After almost 6 months on Depakote I had blood tests last week : my liver enzymes are above the normal range. I know about the liver toxicity of valproic acid, but preferred to be on Depakote instead of Lithium. My pdoc says that they'll tend to decrease with time...But this scares me a bit. Does anyone experienced the same on Depakote ?
Thanks
Tex

> TexIncreased liver enzyme levels tend to be associated with Tegretol instead since it stimulates the liver. Are there any other meds that you are taking that could be responsible? It seems to be odd that VPA is stimulating liver enzymes. My last liver panel/electrolyte that was done (while on Depakote) only showed a slightly elevated potassium level. When I was on lithium I had elevated calcium.
