need new drug for OCD/anxiety

Posted by babs on April 26, 2003, at 5:51:20

I need a new drug! I am currently on 60 mg Celexa for depression, 2 mg risperdal for OCD and anxiety and 30 mg adderall once a day for ADD. I need to get off the risperdal- I've gained 60 pounds, had to start taking an ADD med because I can't concentrate on risperdal and am smoking like crazy. The problem is risperdal has ben great for my anxiety and OCD- it has virtually eliminated them but the effects on my physical health have been horrible. The Celexa alone doesn't cut it on my mood, anxiety or obsessive thoughts but I can't go on like this any longer. I need something that will work on my mood, OCD and anxiety but not cause me to gain all this weight and smoke this much. Seroquel? Abilify? klonopin? a mood stabilizer? I need help! I should also mention that I am med-sensitive and had a horrible experience trying to switch to geodon. Thanks, babs

Hello Babs;
Have you tried anafranil? It is an antidepressant, one of the few approved by FDA to specifically treat OCD. Description follows:

Clomipramine ( Anafranil ) is an antidepressant from the heterocyclic antidepressants family of drugs. This drug is used mainly in the treatment of OCD ( obsessive-compulsive disorder ) but is also used to relief symptoms of arm burning, endogenous depression, hair pulling syndromes, nail biting, panic attacks, phobias, or PMS. It is used in the treatment of narcolepsy and to relieve the pain of arthritis, cancer, diabetic disease, herpeslesions, migraines, tension headaches, or tic douloureux. It may also help decrease the repetitive symptoms in autistic persons.
