Lamictil, Seizures, Breastfeeding

Posted by seamus o'noolan on June 29, 2003, at 22:12:26

My daughter has had 3 seizures within one year of childbirth. The docs find NOTHING but prescribe lamictil. She is breastfeeding and scared about side effects to HER and the baby. She is denied driving rights and for the most part cannot be alone with the baby (the second seizure was DURING breastfeeding, off on her own.) Anybody know about side effects, danger to breastfeeding, whether she would be well advised to take meds even though they more or less don't have a clue what happened? ANY advice, experience, anecdotes WELCOME !!

I hope your daughter got a real intense work up for her seizure history and a Neuro person is seeing her. If not, please demand it - there are so many causes and treatments. On meds and nursing, most hospitals with Womens and Childrens Services have lactation consultants who could research the med for you. They are pretty good resourses. I suggest using one at a hospital - as I know there are also "free standing" lactation services, too. Sorry for all the problems, as this should be a happier time for your family.
