Posted by Emmy333 on September 2, 2003, at 8:38:56

i have been taking the effexor 75 mg. for almost 4 weeks now and i am feeling more depressed and more like a zombie as i continue to take this-- i don't know what to do?? i know that it could take up to 6 weeks to kick in, so i don't want to stop taking it, but i hate feeling this way!!! also, like an idiot, i missed a dose a couple of days ago, and last night i felt extremely nervous, couldn't sleep, and woke up in a hot sweat--should i wean myself off of this or stick it out for the results to kick in?? please help--i am sick of feeling worse than when i started!!

I have been on effexor 75mg for about 10 days. It has been a rough ride for me to. I was dropping it early morning ,but switched to early evening. Now I just want to sleep the morning away, so I might go back to taking it in the morning. Mostly i feel jumpy and spaced out. I do have moments of peace.

I took effexor a few years ago and it did end up helping. My m.d. told me to stay with it for at least 3 months.

Stay in contact with the doctor who perscribed the med. Everyone reacts differently to these meds. It can be a lonely journey, that's why I come here! Good luck!

I'm not an expert on Effexor, but I think that 75 mg is too low for most people. I think that a more typical maintainance dose is about 300 mg.

Ask your doc if raising the dose might help. When the dose of Effexor is raised, different brain chemicals are affected.

I'm taking a minimum of 225 mgs. per day and don't feel zombie-ish at all. When I ramped up I started with 75 mgs. for one week and went up another 75 from there. Effexor has more stimulating properties for many people than the majority of antidepressants, that's one of Effexor's strengths. I would check with your Dr, about increasing the dosage.

My husband is taking 300mg daily (at night). He's tried mornings, etc. He has done very well in terms of less depression but he is pratically without any physical activity at all. He says he just doesn't feel like doing anything. Is this common? He sleeps for hours & hours and just doesn't DO anything. Effexor XR has truly been a life saver in re to his depression overall but this lack of activity is frightening in itself. Any thoughts?

I can't say that I am tired with Effexor. I have been at 150mg for about 6 months, and it has helped immensely with feelings of sadness, anxiety attacks, and grouchy aggressive feelings. On the other hand, I am going this week to an allergist because I have had hives and itching for 3 months that won't go away....I am wondering if effexor is the culprit...so, I am wishywashy on whether its going to work for me or not.
