I am new to the board hello all.i have had probs with GAD and situational panic attacks for years.I tried paxil (made me very nervous and irritated my ibs),luvox(just irritated ibs,(diarrhea).and also took buspar for years,helped a lil.i quit smoking cigs 2 months ago.since then my physical panic symptoms(motor tension,floatiness,ibs have gotten much better.but my racy thoughts,worry,and ahint of depression are troublesome. i have a dr. appointment on tues. coming up and she is willing to give me any med i want.any suggestions?maybe the ssris are tolerable since i quit smoking?ps. i am an avid jogger .so i get exercise.i need some help if you got a sec guys.thanx

I have GAD too. I originally tried Celexa which worked very well at first for the constant worrying thoughts, but lethargy and sexual side effects became too much. I would recommend Klonopin...lots of people here use it with success. It calms and somehow makes you more socially at ease. At first, I found it is a bit sedating, and that after a week on 1mg per day, my energy level plummetted. However, 5 weeks later,the low energy/sedation effect is gone, and I'm left with the anxiolytic effect only. It may not help with the thoughts tho'. Xanax (another benzo) helps with depression. Just a suggestion. Goood luck!

P.S. Because I was complaining of low energy at my last PDoc visit, he has put me on BuSpar, and I'm tapering off Klonopin. However, a lot of people (like you) seem to have found it ineffective, so I'm definitely going back on Klonopin, if it doesn't work!!!
