Trying to be brave

Posted by Kristen_03 on October 10, 2003, at 16:49:19

Ok...My dr called in a prescription today for Lexapro 10 mg,but I just really am so scared to stop taking my Zoloft to try the Lexapro.Even though the Zoloft hasnt helped my depression completely ,It has been my safety net for the past 10 yrs..Making this switch really frightens me.Is 10 mgs of Lexapro a high dose to start off on? God I hate this..I will probably be posting a lot this weekend trying to build up my courage..Thanks so very much for all the feedback and support. They both are greatly needed and apreciated.Take care and God bless.

I was on Prozac for 10 years, and it really helped. After it finally pooped out on me I went on Paxil - an absolute nightmare from hell for me. Then on to Lexapro which gave me stomach pains (at 5mgs per day) so I had to stop it (although 99% people I know who took Lexapro did NOT have that reaction), then on to Zoloft which helped some and then on to Celexa which is what I am on now. It is the most similar to Prozac and seems to help quite a lot with very little side effects. My point is that each person is different and will react differently to each med. I do understand your concern, and if it is any consulation I have a tendency to be extremely sensitive to a lot of meds which is kind of unusual I think. A lot of folks I know really like Lexapro, do not get sick on it, and find it very helpful, so I hope it works well for you. Remember to give it about 4-6 weeks to work- could even work sooner hopefully. Good luck and let us know!

I was really scared to start Lexapro, because, I, like you, had been on another AD (Effexor) for so long, and I had my doubts about beginning a new AD that I had never tried before (Lexapro).
I have a friend who is on 2.5mg of Lexapro, and some here started on 5mg, and some started on 10mg too, it just depends on what your prescribing doctor wants to do and what you and he/she agree on, dosaging wise. I started on 10mg.
Hang in there, keep posting, who knows...Lexapro may do better for you than Zoloft~hopoing the best for you!
