Does BuSpar and Picamilon mix?Contraindications?

Posted by Jasmine Neroli on October 10, 2003, at 19:37:18

Hello All!
I take 30 mg per day BuSpar, for GAD. Waiting for it to start working, currently.
Prior to being prescribed the Buspar, I had read so much encouraging info about Picamilon, I ordered some (not available in Canada). Now the order has arrived, I'm not sure whether or not it is safe to take with BuSpar. I'm guessing it should only be like augmenting with a benzo (which I'm also currently doing....Klonopin). Anyone have an opinion on this? Also, what daily amounts of Picamilon ??
My pdoc will probably tell me not to take it all....but I want to experiment on myself and take my findings to him, next app't. :)

Hi,
If I was on Buspar medicine, I wouldn't worry about supplementing it with Picamilon. Buspar is a mild anxiolytic and works via totally different method of action than Picamilon. From my experience I've combined Klonopin with Picamilon, L-Theanine, Kava-Kava, Xyrem (GHB), and I consider Klonopin to be more powerful anxiolytic than Buspar, and I was feeling fine. The combination of Klonopin + L-Theanine even increased the positive effects.
But your brain metabolism and effects may vary.
These are just my 2 cents, take them with a grain of salt because I'm not a doctor, unfortunately :-) .Although I spend tremendous amount of my free time researching the connection between brain chemicals, medicines and different mind disorders. Just a freaky hobby of mine :-)) , but mainly I dig this stuff to help out myself. If it wasn't for my pubmed researching and 2 web-sites: biopsychiatry.com and dr-bob.org - I'd probably still suffer social anxiety/phobia/dysthymia (because prior to that I didn't have slightest idea such conditions existed - I just thought that I was a shy-type, which BTW I'm not, when I use proper dopaminergic medicine - Amisulpride, which turned my life around lately). Ok, sorry for all the blahblah on my side, as I went on writing, I didn't think it would become so long lol .
Take care.

* I LOVE Klonopin! I will definitely be going back to it if BuSpar isn't working.

>The combination of Klonopin + L-Theanine even increased the positive effects.

* I have read lots of positive stuff about Theanine too, it's unavailable here in Canada right now, but apparently will be soon. I may also try ordering some online, but I have to try the Picamilon /Buspar combo first for a few weeks.

* No, you're not blabbing on! Hahaha....we alll do it here! And it's really informative!! I too, am very into researching the bio-chem of the brain and endocrine system...it too has helped me get the right diagnosis and be informed about my choices when I go to doctors. It seems that most people who have mental health issues have to really fight/be insistent about treatments etc., right at a time when they are least able to do so!

Thanks for your help, and I'm glad you have your problems under control!! I'm positively working towards that now!
look after yourself.
Jas

The best and cheapest place to buy l-theanine (and also other vitamins/supplements) is beyond-a-century.com. They mainly sell things in powder but with a cheap digital scale it is easy to measure things out. l-theanine is very powerful anxiolytic all by itself.

Take care and I hope you'll find a solution to your anxiety.

L-theanine

I like theanine. It seems to provide mild focus and energy at the same time. It's an amino acid found primarily in tea, which is thought to counteract the potential anxiety that the caffeine in tea can cause. In Japan, apparently it's added to all sorts of products (soft drinks, gum, etc.). There was a study in the news recently which suggested that L-theanine may even be an immune system booster.

It's definitely worth a try, although I found it pretty subtle. For me, Klonopin definitely is the top anti-anxiety med.

BTW, Picamilon also had subtle positive effects for me, somewhat similar to those of L-theanine. However, I've never taken Buspar and don't know anything about the potential interactions.

I second that. L-Theanine is a great supplement. And combining it with Klonopin gives one giant kick to general/social anxiety.

Redirect: L-theanine

Could follow-ups regarding theanine be redirected to Psycho-Babble Alternative? Here's a link:
