Feeling great!! Buprenorphine

Posted by Caleb462 on November 13, 2003, at 17:53:58

Well, today is day 3 on Bupernorphine (12 mg sublingual daily). I started bupe to control my opiate addiction, and it has worked wonders for that. My cravings are gone!!

But there's more to it than that.... my depression/anxiety/social phobia has decreased by atleast 80% since starting bupe. I'm also on Nardil, and hopefully nardil will give me a good response also, and my problems will get even better!

My only worry is that the anti-depressant/anti-anxiety effects of buprenorphine will fade, but I doubt they will - I've talked to people who have been on it long-term (both for opiate addiction and emotional issues), and I've been assured the effects will last.

Anyway, hope everyone is doing well. I know I am, and its the first time I've been well in a looooong time.

Caleb this is great news!! Im so happy for you & now Im not the only babbler taking bup for depression. You are taking 10x more than me but that makes sense with the rest of your situation. My pdoc said yesterday he believes the bup has been holding me from falling deeper into depression. It has been a miracle drug for me so far!! Pls keep us posted.
cheers, Lili

I am so glad to see another positive post re: Buprenorphine.I have been at 8-12 mgs per day for just over a year now and am so grateful to have my life back. One note that you might find helpful... fish oil 1000mgs 3 X's a day added to it's effectiveness for me.

thanks for the tip, I'll start on that tomorrow. Hopefully as more people hear that bupe works for depression they will start asking their pdocs for it & it may become a less 'fringe' treatment.
pls keep us updated on your progress.
cheers

i saw my doc on friday and she refused my request to do a trial of burpenorphine. i presented her with some research and some anecdotal evidence regarding its effectiveness in treating depression, but no luck. any ideas for how i can get a prescription for this drug?

this is no good. What about buprenorphine maintenance programs for addiction? As you were taking it for that is there a maintenance program you can get into? Where are you located? It might be worth doing a search of the old posts to see where the others who came here who were taking it lived so you can track down a doc with experience prescribing it.
let us know how you go

i'm in cleveland. i wasn't on buprenorphine except for a few days while in detox several years ago. at this point, i'm sober for over 3 years so i'm not hopeful that an addiction specialist will prescribe it for me. i'll make some calls though and see if i can get anywhere. where are you liligoth? if you're in the U.S. and you wouldn't mind, perhaps i'll give your doctor a call. if this works, email me at robandfab@adelphia.net. thanks.
