Hey folks...just wanted to let everyone know the generic of Serzone, Nefazedone, is still available in Canada. My doctor today was going to prescribe it to me for sexual-dysfuntion related to my Prozac. I also went and checked out the governments drug database, and yes you can still get it. I found it to be an *amazing* drug when used with an SRI + ZYprexa, as there seems to be a lot of blocking and such of many important receptors. It also helped my libido in the past. My doc wanted me to wait for a week or two at my new 80mg dose of Prozac before we go that route.
Just a "heads up" to anyone out there.

--------------------Not available at my regular pharmacy (BC), I just tried to refill my regular script today. Not even generics. It seems to be a "voluntary" pulling of stock. When this has happened before with other meds, usually all the pharmacies fall in line within a week or so.
I may call a few other drugstores, but unfortunately the refill was on an Rx with another item, so it would take a bit of running around to get it transferred or see the doc again.
I am transferring to Lamictal anyway, but I had hoped for another 30 days worth of Serzone to get me through the long buildup to full A/D dosage (100mg/day or more, judging from most people's experience here). My current plan is to stretch out the Serzone I have left at 300/200/100 mg/day, which will just take me to the beginning of Lamictal at the 100 mg level. Heaven help me if I develop the rash! Sigh....
Why couldn't they just put a stronger warning for liver problems on the Serzone, and let the Dr's and pharmacists do their job!!

ACK! I hope that doesn't happen here in the states. My pdoc and my internist both tell me that, although liver enzyme monitoring needs to be monitored throughout treatment, serious liver problems usually show up early in treatment if they are going to happen. You're right. More close monitoring of patients, especially earlier in treatment would be a better way to go.
Look, I know that I take risks by taking strong medications. But the alternative for me would be severe debilitating treatment resistent depression. I'm not sure if I'd still be here if not for finally finding a combination of meds that works decently (not perfectly, but decently). But just because there are too many doctors prescribing without proper management, doesn't mean potentially helpful drugs should be taken off the market. Yes, we might need to think of some meds as not a first line approach to treatment for most people. But then there are those of us who don't respond to the first line choices.

I live in the states, but I heard on TV (the all knowing medium)that even the generics are to be pulled in Canada.
I think it's fate in the US in still very much unknown.
