Been taking 15mg Adderall XR at 8am and at 1-2pm, feeling sluggish, taking 5mg Adderall XR and still sluggish at 5pm. Is 20mg a low dose? My pdoc is not a huge fan of stimulants and my concern is telling him that 20mg has a noticeable effect that lasts only 3-4 hours.
I had a great response years ago to a low dose of Derxedrine but my doc thinks the dangers of long term use outweighs the immediate benefits. Do most pdoc think that way and if not, where are they in NY?

I was on Adderall XR 20mg./day for a short time before I was switched to the regular Adderall; the Adderall XR "come-down" or what not was not pleasant at all, and if I took it in the morning I'd be pretty tired/inattentive/feeling down/irritable, etc., by at least 5 p.m., if I recall correctly. So now I have been on regular (immediate release??)Adderall for appx. a year? and it has been a much better fit for me for my ADHD than the Adderall XR was. And 20 mg. is the dose of Adderall XR that I was started out on I think, so I would not imagine that 20 mgs./day is a large dose of Adderall XR. Best of luck!

My son has been taking Adderall for 2 years, and it has seriously worked miracles. But this last month I took him in for a refill and to re-evaluate his condition, and the doc said he wanted to try him on Adderalxr. He said the reason for that was because 1 pill (5mg) would last all day instead of 4-6 hrs. (the regular adderall lasted all day anyways) Well now about the time my child comes home from school hes extremely cranky and irritable. He will literally start to groan for no apparent reason. He is no longer as out of control w/ being hyper... hes just an extremly whiny boy. After reading your post above, I am thinking This could be because of the new adderallxr.

I know exactly what you mean, i tried and taken all adderall, adderall Xr, dexedrine, and desoxyn-all the amphetamines for 5 yrs. They all really work, but man when they wear off, whew! i am CRANKY!! and tired, but more cranky. I swear i just want EVERYONE to leave me alone, and everything makes me irrtible. Adderall is amphetamine, and sometimes it depends on each person, but they have been known for there "up and downs" or "crash". people who take amphetamine(s) usally feel fatigue after it wears off, because the stimulant effect diminishes. Have any other questions, ask me.

...Just my $0.02 :
It's occurred to me that the rage/anger aspect of eXtended Release Adderall "wear off", ages children->adult is beginning to be hugely documented on many sites that i've been surfing...
Or maybe i've just been attentive to that ;)i've experienced that anger aspect with stimulant medicine before, so i thought i'd share what might contribute to it's absence for me~
The Adderall formula that i have found works best is to take my largest portion of daily dose of Regular Adderall first thing in the morning, and reduce portion dose in descending steps while increasing the time between doses. On occasion, to counter a return to stimulation when the last dose wears off in the evening, i take 5mg Adderall (regular) to enable me to calm & sleep.ALSO it's my understanding that stims do use and can deplete a body/psyche of it's vitamins and stress or wellness hormones. Replenishing for and during the "wear off" time is key for me, too. I'd share what my own best nourishment and suppliment formula for that is, but those questions are really best addressed by more knowledgeable people on psychbabble-Alternative by many of the people who post there who know SO much more than i do about it all... besides, i'm really sleepy right now and it's finally bedtime for bozo.

.P.S. (Escher here again)
Okay, after some sleepy debate with myself, i've decided to post this wonderful comment about amphetamine in an old friend's work of writing:
"It's not FUEL, man! ...it's an accelerator pedal. Infact it's not even the pedal, it's... 'pedal pushers'*! Back to cycling, man! ...sure glad I'm driving... I BETTER be driving!"*'pedal pushers' : bottom half clothing for riding bicycles, etc., circa-? children only?
Beam me up scott-y,

Hi Escher
Ive been hugging my matress for a month. Iam interested in learning more about Adderall. I am concerned about the very thing you hinted at, depleation of bodily resources.
Can you tell me alittle bit about how you have handled that?
