anxiety in sleep

Posted by rainee on February 28, 2004, at 18:48:42

I just woke up thinking the bed was shaking and it was me on the inside. I have had this before I don't shake on the outside. It scares me of course and my heart races and I even get charlie horses easy in my calves. I have always been prone to them even in my toes ever since I was a little girl. But I have had anxiety since I was a little girl.. I often wonder what the heck my brain is doing . any one relate...
Thanks

shaky Rainee,
I just took a klonopin

I can definitely relate...have had anxiety all of my life. Very few drugs work...try Zyprexa low dose if you are desperate because it does not poop out. It's really hard to cope on bad days, but your life is still very special. Try not to catastrophize...that's the worst you can do. Don't be scared. You tend to get afraid of your body's flight/fight response, but you can overcome this by relaxation training. It's not easy but you can do it. Best wishes.

Rainee --

were you _really_ asleep, or was your mind wandering as you tried to sleep?

or did you feel like you sort of 'jerked' awake? because either sleep apnea or sleep deprivation can make you more prone to jerking when you're falling asleep. (Check this out =http://www.discovery.com/area/skinnyon/skinnyon971114/skinnyon.html)

there could be things other than just anxiety causing this -- maybe it's a natural phenomenon that you can accept, or maybe there's another way to treat it.

i hope you have better sleep for the rest of the evening!

I've been on Klon...for sleep for three years and I'm trying to wean myself off now and I'm having a hard time. I've gone through tons of nightmares and dreams - nightsweats - calf cramps etc.. For the most part, it was a great drug for me that worked for my insomnia and I just became a vivid dreamer - I also realized in the beginning that the anxiety and the reasons why I couldn't sleep in the first place was b/c of mind racing that I couldn't control. I was like a little girl running scared and I had to figure out what all those issues were in order to start to get better and get better sleep. HOw long have you been on Klon and how much are you taking? I found that 1.5 mg worked really well for a long time for me. Good luck tonight - try and think good thoughts and do peaceful activities before going to bed - hope it gets better..
