I have tried variuos AD's/klonopin for 5 years. Currently I am on 150mgs of Effexor and 1 mg of K. Went up to 225 mgs of Effexor, just felt flat. Tried Wellbutrin alone, combination with Effexor, made me to hyper/spacey. Took Celexa for about 2 years had great sleep, but little AD effect. Combined with wellbutrin made me nasty. My symptoms are low grade depression, irritability (sometimes bad), extreme impatience, obsesiveness, poor sleep. It seems, I never feel great, best is OK sometimes. I know all you guys (ladies too) are not PD's, but you have a lot of experience and could maybe provide a little insight on how to remedy my issues. Hell maybe it's who I am and I'll just have to live with it.....

You may be a misdiagnosed bipolar. Many who are diagnosed as depressed are either bipolar in one of their "down" cycles, or a mixture of depression and some flavor of bipolar, like me.
You should discuss this with your pDoc. There are tests that you can take that will help in the diagnosis. Use of and antidepressant by bipolars can cause mania to increase. If you're not having good results with the AD's you've tried then either:
1. Your diagnosis is wrong
2. You haven't discovered the right med yet
3. Your doseage on your meds isn't enoughYou get the picture. This isn't rocket science and scientists don't really *know* how these drugs work, they can only observe the before and after.
Based on my talks with my pDoc, whose specialty is psychopharmocology, we pulled my Wellbutrin and substituted Seroquel when bipolar was suspected, to help moderate moods. We'll be adding something for ADHD this next week, but Effexor and Seroquel have helped in the depression/moods department.
Also look into talk therapy if you're not currently doing so. It sounds as if you may have some other issues that need to be worked through. Meds can only take you part of the way, the rest is up to you... Good luck.

Thank you for the input. My DX was originally, anxiety disorder, depression, agrophophobia. My PD has suspected I may be bipolar, but I never truly have mania, unless mania can be manifested by irritability and poor sleep. I could also be ADHD. But the differance between ADHD, GAD and BP II can be a fine line. What dose Seroquel do you take and does it help with sleep?

Not all bipolars have *true* manias, hence the BP II label and Atypical BP as well as others...
I take 100mg of Seroquel each night for mood stabilization and sleep. The sleep is great. Instead of waking 3-4 times during the night, I now wake once. I don't have the disturbing dreams that I had on Trazadone.
The sleep is a side effect due to the sedation, ehnce the reason why I take the Seroquel at night and not in the morning.... You're right about the 'fine line'.

Like me - I'm BPII and GAD. I am the rapid cycling type and the mania manifests as irritability and some feelings of super powers - how good is that? So far the "magic" combination is effexor xr 150mg, buspar 20mg at night - really helps me sleep; and 10mg in the morning. I am still experiencing anxiety attacks but they are getting better. I have tried vistaril (no effect on me) and now on a weeney bit of xanax 0.25mg that doesn't quite work but I am prone to dependcies.Good luck. Knowledge is power!
