I started taking Effexor back in October 75mg. I recently saw a Psych. and she prescribed me 75mg twice a day and Xanax .25 mg twice a day. This was in February. I have GAD. Although this has helped slightly, I don't think that it has helped enough. Any suggestions? Maybe I need an increase in meds?
Thank you,
Jamie

I am bipolar II in addition to having GAD.It took me a full 8 weeks for my GAD to *start* to subside. You should check with the psychiatrist - I wouldn't want to adjust my dosage without checking with mine. Right now she's seeing me every other week to check on my meds. At the moment the BP2 is coming under control and the anxiety is getting better. It's a long ride for me.
I am also on buspar (40mg total) in addition to effexor xr (75mg)and xanax (.25mg if needed). I was on 150mg of effexor xr but my blood pressure went too high, so I was bumped down. The first 4 days were rough, but now I am evening out.
Are you getting any therapy in addition to the meds?

Yes I am getting therapy. I am going once a month. The only side effect that I am having right now is often I wake up in the middle of the night and I can't get back to sleep. I can get to sleep ok, but if I wake up my mind starts racing and I can't get back to sleep.
Thanks for your response.
