Provigil Narc use only

Posted by dill187 on May 5, 2004, at 23:42:58

I am a newbee to this site and think its a great site.

My doctor is perscribing provigil (100mg)1Xdaily for narcolepsy only. I have never fallen asleep unexpectedly, but five - fifteen minute sleep studys concluded that, when on a bed, I was able to fall asleep after 4minutes avgerage. I have been noticing that I am still sleepy after a good nights rest.

Has anyone ever been diagnosed with the same, Mild Narcolepsy?

My question about provigil is how addictive and how dependent is this drug?

I have been reading post of people taking this drug for depression and/or ADD. Is there anyone whom is taking it for Narc use only? How did it make you feel?

Thank You in advance

Wow...someone who actually uses a medication for the symptom it was designed for. I used Provigil for only a couple of months, and not for narcolepsy, but I didn't feel the need to increase the dose as time went by. Other than a day or two of fatigue it was not difficult to discontinue.

Why did you discontinue it?

Curved Hunger-Could have gone without food

No mood swings-usually I get fustrated easily

Didn't yawn all day! - shocked

I'm taking Provigil for fatigue. Not true narcolepsy but it feels pretty close. Anyway, the headaches went away after awhile. It seems to be more stimulating for me if I only take 50 to 75 mg. (I break the 100's) What I usually do is take 50 to 75 when the fatigue is getting to be too much (some time in the a.m.). Then usually I take another 25 to 50 around 2pm. I find that taking it this way keeps me awake through the day without hyping me up too much or causing me any anxiety or nervousness. I have no problem with withdrawals if I don't take it. Maybe a little added drowsiness but that is all. When I first started taking it I had alot of headaches as well as feeling kind of spacey. So much so that the spacey feeling made me afraid to take it if I had to drive anywhere or do anything important that day. The spacey feeling is completely gone and the headaches only happen if I take more than I am used to on a given day. The awake feeling is very subtle. It has been a tremendous help for me.
Hope the info helps a little.

Provigil is a fairly new drug, one of a newer class of milder Stimulants they are working to develop for those who find the old stand-bys too harsh(Dexedrine,Ritalin,Adderrall). At the present time,it is only rated as a Class IV drug, and doses of 400-600mg a day are common. Those side-effects will probably be gone in a week. All and all,it gets a good response, mostly,as long as you have insurance to pay for it(VERY costly med)Festus
