Wondering what the side effects are from taking too much Effexor. Not overdose type effects, just maybe taking 37.5 mg more than needed. Have been waking up extremely tired. Feel like I haven't slept. Also muscles in upper legs and upper arms ache.
Thanks,
Fires

I've been taking 150 mg for some time. Wondering if it might be too high. I now suspect (after doing some research) that the Florinef I'm taking may be the cause of those symptoms.
(I've got other med issues besides Dep)
Thanks,
fires

>Hi Fires,
The number one problem with too much Effexor is high blood pressure, this starts to happen for most at 225mg & upwards. Seizures can happen at extreme dosages (450mg & upwards) & it can cause all sorts of funny side effects at any dose. Florinef does seem to be more likely to be the cause of your problem.

Panda.

When I was at 225 mg Effexor I was having adrenaline surges (Pdoc called them panic attacks, only I wasn't panicky!)and GI problems.
My blood pressure has been ok lately. My internist just ordered me some basic blood tests this morning. If things don't work out for the better I'm going to request a SPECT scan.
Thanks,
fires

>Funny you should say that, a few days ago I had waves of goose bumps with a tinge of adrenaline come over me slowly in response to being a little bit cold(nearly winter here). Drugs that increase serotonin can upset your body's temerature as it is controlled by some serotonin receptors, some people suffer bad night sweats. Same goes for your digestive system, Effexor gives me bad nausea that I could never shake, I take Remeron to counter the nausea & it gives me a great nights sleep. What digestive problems are you suffering & how long have you been taking Effexor?
Cheers,
Panda.

Yeh, I had adrenaline surges with severe goosebump chills. I had a horrible time getting up to 225 mg of Eff., then + 30mg Remeron. Had several special Dr. visits and one ER visit (massive adrenaline surge).Had every injury I ever had become painful. Found out I had fractured a T-vertebrae that I didn't know had been fractured. Also, found out I have mild degeneration of part of my C-spine. Then a bone density scan showed some osteoporosis in my left hip.( I'm only 50).
I didn't get nausea from Effexor -- but ulcer type sympyoms (gastritis). I've been on GERD meds since 1983. I also have an hiatal hernia. Had upper and lower GI endoscopy after I had reduced dose to 150 mg, and Dr. saw and biopsied lower esoph.. Showed Barrett's Esophagus, which can be a precursor to cancer in some people. My brother has terminal esoph. cancer, but I'm hoping it doesn't get me in future. I've been on Eff. since late Dec. of last year. Plan to take it or something else the rest of my life.
Forgot to mention that high 225 mg of Eff. with 30 mg Remeron also gave me flushing episodes, sort of the opposite of the adrenaline surges.
Thanks,
Fires

>Hi Fires,
I take Remeron too, I'm currently on 225mg+30mg. I have noticed that Remeron gives me a little heartburn occasionally, have you had any problem with it? It also gives me foot odema. Have you tried TCA's? You might do better on Clomipramine or Amitriptyline.
Cheers,
Panda.

>I no longer take Remeron. Last took only 7.5 mg of it for sleep. I was doing good on Parnate then a Cardio. said it was causing tachycardia, which proved to be wrong. Cost me thousands of $$$ -- going off Parnate>> got sick, then Dep., no disability benefits. :(Hope to get much better soon. Never did well on TCAs. Did tolerate Desipramine, but it didn't help. I think I have other health probs. causing me to have symptoms which my Docs don't quite understand. Clonazepam helps somewhat, but I think there's more going on. May ask for fMRI or Spect scan if it comes to that. I'm not a big believer in psychosomatics. My previous Dr. talked in terms of neurosomatic disorders. That's more to my liking and thinking.
Bye,
Fires
