The weight question and losing it

Posted by msurtees on July 8, 2004, at 18:21:57

OK: I've been on Zoloft (150mg daily) for about 8 months. I'm now a fat blob. I've gained about 20 pounds and ALL my pants are now getting too tight to wear even while 'sucking it in.'

I guess my question is: before I start lifting weights/exercising/watching what I eat...can I get it to come off or is it impossible with the medication? Or, do I have to go on a pants spending spree? :(

Thanks much. I don't like my new "laptop shelf".

Hi....I'm currently on Remeron, have been for a year now. I've was always one of those fortunate people who stayed nice and slim whatever I ate, with barely any exercise. After a year of Remeron I have gained nearly 30 pounds. It is ridiculously difficult to lose weight while on AD's, in my experience...even with dieting and exercise. The other week I finally caved in, after sadly saying goodbye to my old slim fitting clothes, and bought some new bigger ones. So I guess my answer would be; Get some new pants!

I'm afraid I have to agree. My p-doc told me that the weight gain was not even a secondary concern (which depressed me further!). After I gave in and bought bigger pants, people thought I'd lost weight LOL so it actually made me feel much better.

BTW after changing meds as many times as most of the people here, my current combination of effexor and wellbutrin has had the added benefit of suppressing my appetite.

As you'll have read in many places, and as your doctor has probably told you, exercise will truly help your mood too. Keeping your metabolism up might slow down your weight gain, too.

good luck!
