Change to Seroquel.....

Posted by ace on August 5, 2004, at 23:47:23

Hi guys

well 7 days at 5mg Zyprexa gave me depression. For some reason, 5mg always gives me depression, its just a matter of time (usually within a day to a week)

last night I thought, instead of going back to 2.5mg, i will try Seroquel.

50mg last night 50mg this morning. Felt very sedated after morning dose.

Also, seems to make my anxiety a little worse and depresonalistaion more pronounced...but this could just be start-up s/effects. What do you think? Anyhow, the depression is slightly better (Zyprexa 5mg leaving my blood)

But I have som qstns about Seroquel

1. Can I take it one dose at night for my oCD (I knowe its half life is preety short)

2. Onset of effect?

3. Can people here tell me what they use it for what dose, and how it has helped. and how long it takes to help?

4. Last thing- weight gain- a lot say that you don't really gain weight on Seroquel- can someone attest to this?

thanks

I was on 25 mg of seroquel for sleep. I didn't find it helped in the arena of anxiety, but I was on it for sleep. I would have a hard time waking up. Anyway, I started gaining wt. Doc blamed it on the seroquel and lexapro. I take it prn for sleep now. I understand that higher doses are less sedating.

I've been on Lexapro (10mg) and Seroquel (25mg) for about 7 months now.

I take my Seroquel to help with sleep. I take it about 2 hours before I plan on going to bed. I do take 1/2 tab (12.5mg) occasionally PRN if needed for mild hypomania during the day.

It does make me drowsy, but that's the idea at this level. If I take it by 8PM, I can easily fall asleep by 10PM and can get out of bed by 6AM.

If I have to double-up on the Seroquel (if I've had a really hypo kind of day or if I don't properly wind down for the night, i.e. working late) I find that I will sleep about 2 extra hours than if I take 25mg.

I have experienced no weight gain on this combination, and I am thrilled about it. I lost 10-15 lbs last fall before I went on it (stressing out heavily) and am so happy that it hasn't crept back. Yeah!

Hope this help!

Wildman

I take 100mg for sleep and I've also tried taking it during the day to calm my brain down. I also have OCD. It seems to work well for obsessions but almost knocks me out. Give it a try though and see what happens.
