I recently stopped abusing prescription pain killers (3 months ago), but then was thrown into a deep depression that I needed to seek help for. Was initially put on Wellbutrin and trazadone (for sleep). I was still going back and forth from attaining some happiness, to terrible irritability. Dr. then added gabitril and lamictal. So now I am on this freakin' cocktail of meds, and still go back and forth. Some good days, and still some days of deep despair. I guess the reason I am on some of these meds (some are anti-seizure meds that also used to treat bi-polar, which I'm not even sure I have. I complained of irritability and was diagnosed with "mild" bi-polar) is my history of abuse, but my question is...Is there anyone out there on this kind of combo, and does it even help. I am almost thinking of going to another Dr. and concealing my history of pill-popping so I can get on regular depression and anti-anxiety meds. I'm just looking for someone who may be in my similar situation. Thanks!

Consider Buprenorphine. If opiates help with your depression, you may be able to find a pdoc who would be willing to prescribe it to you. It has a ceiling to its subjective high that limits its abuse liability. If you take over a given amount, you will not get any higher, in fact it will start to antagonize its own actions at the mu-opiate receptor.
