POLL: PARNATE DOSE

Posted by ed_uk on March 17, 2005, at 13:16:03

Hello,

I have a question for anyone who has received long-term Parnate for the treatment of depression.

For *you*, what was the most effective and tolerable maintenance dose of Parnate?

Thanks,
Ed.

80-100 mg. I tried going above 100 mg but then I experienced side effects so I went down. What I loved about Parnate what the ability to modify my dosage on a daily basis if needed. I always lowered it somewhat before the full moon.

Are you thinking of taking it?

Hi Ed,
20-30 mg. I couldn't not go above (increased anxiety, OCD, hypersomnia).
20-30 mg is very effective for me. Below 20 no effect.
"Hypertensive reaction" more likely above 20 mg (tested with 1 liter of beer). I assume at that dose it starts working for me. I have not noticed any tolerance (need for dose increasal) after 1,5 year.

40mg, for me...20 in the morning, and 20 at noon. Above 40mg, my skin gets red blotches/flushes, anxiety INCREASES, increased irritablility (no significant increase in blood pressure).

I have noticed that alcohol generally DECREASES the long term effectiveness of Parnate. A good, strong B complex vitamin INCREASES the effectiveness. (alcohol depletes B-vitamins)

Hi djmmm,
You got the point. I have precisely the same effects. Alcohol makes me really depressed. B complex increase the effectiveness. What is your profile? Atypical depression? Social phobia? Thanks for your input. Have you considered Nardil as an alternative?

I range between 30 mg-90.One thing i am comming to a final conclusion on,is for ME,if and after you get the initial response to it,and begin to have trouble.....i personaly CANNOT take parnate alone, without augmenting. Two days on it with no augmenting and id be a mess.

However vice versa, the augmentors,i.e l-theanine,taurine,ghb etc are uselesss with out parnate.

Oh and the above are various augment strategies i switch to from time to time,i dont use em all.Once again i can not take parnate alone,it simply does not posses a effect to complete it,even when it works full speed its missing a certain thing.

Hard to answer this--at one time, I was up briefly at 50 mg. to get it to kick in faster, (had no really problematic side effects), then dropped it to 40 mg. after it kicked in, then stayed at 30 mg./ per day. 30 mg is my usual maintenance dose. So, I've been fortunate--don't know what my maximum tolerable limit would be. Hope this makes sense.
