Hi there.
Maybe my life is overwhelming me more. Maybe it's poop-out. I started very slowly on Lexapro and built up first to 10 mgs, then a few months later I went up to 20. I did well on it for a long time. I particularly enjoyed the beginning days when I felt "better than well" However it was great not to have the standard Sunday night depression and Monday morning anxiety. Those are both back now.
I think in a year's time I have begun the dreaded "poop out" I am hesitant to simply up the dosage to 30 or 40. What else is out there that works? Is there anything newer than the Lexapro? I have tried paxil, effexor, wellbutrin, and zoloft and either had absolutely no effect, or severe nausea.
I am your basic functioning neurotic.. Any thoughts?I have added on folic acid, and fish oil but I think it may be time to deal with the poopout factor.

Don't know what your diagnosis is (anxiety, depression, both?). I take ativan as needed, but because I need more, my doctor is suggesting replacing ativan with Abilify (it is a newer atypical antipsychotic) that is useful for anxiety as well as nonpsychotic mood disorders. it is supposed to have low side effects. It is a newer atypical because it is supposed to help regulate both Dopamine and Serontin receptors. I am trying to find out more on this board about it, while I've received one or two responses, still haven't found out a lot from people who have taken it for some time.

I don't know if that's the case; certainly, my pdoc is recommending it because he's hoping it will help relieve some anxiety. But apparently, some people who have posted here have had it rev them up.

You might consider a tricyclic antidepressant (TCA. They are actually older and often have more side effects. I found desipramine to be more helpful than the SSRI's that I tried.
