MAO-A and Delivery system

Posted by Declan on October 16, 2005, at 16:36:09

Can anyone explain to me how and why the route of administration effects gut MAO-A.

The Emsam patch administers selegeline into the bloodstream and therefore inhibits less MAO-A?
Is it important then to keep the MAOI away from the gut to reduce tyramine sensitivity?
Has this got anything to do with Plasminplus and absorption into the small intestine rather than the stomach?

I always took selegeline/deprenyl sublingually. Now I do the same with Parnate, partly to get the show on the road ASAP so's I can sleep at night, but I have noticed less of a BP rise after my couple of scotches and a joint in the evening.

Does this make sense?
