Hi,
has anyone used tianeptine in combination with a re-uptake inhibitor? I'm thinking of possibly using it with remeron. Will the serotonergic effects of one cancel out the other? It seems like a silly combination with respect to the way the drugs work, however I'd like the antidepressant effect of remeron without the emotional numbness it usually causes.
Any response will be appreciated.

Tianeptine + remeron would probably not cancel, since remeron has noradrenergic activity as well.

Tianeptine works via encouraging reuptake inhibition, but Remeron acts specifically at receptors, at clinical dosages. It does not have any net effect on extrasynaptic serotonin levels--it sticks to blockading 5ht 2a, 2c and 5ht3 receptors. So it's unlikely to block tianeptine's presumed mechanism of action.
Tianeptine, in turn, does not have any (known) effects on serotonin receptors, so it probably wouldn't interfere with Remeron's receptor antagonism.
It's hard to say how they'd interact in practice. It seems, theoretically, like a sensible thing to try, though, and safe.
