I've heard that the MAOI's are wonderfully effective for Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Is this true?

Nardil worked great for my anxiety 10 years ago. This new Nardil, as they call it, has done nothing for me. It actually made my anxiety worse. But that is just me. Maybe it will work wonders for you. Parnate was too stimulating for me. I felt like I could jump out of my skin. Like I was on speed or something.
Are you thinking of trying one?

Yeah, Nardil is the MAOI that's most effective for anxiety problems. Some people say it's a miracle drug for social anxiety disorder. Some people have found the new formulation is less effective for them than the original, allegedly because the tablets dissolve too quickly in the stomach where most of the drug is then absorbed, instead of passing into the small intestine where most of the MAO-A lives. Therefore (so the theory goes) less MAO is inhibited with a corresponding loss of efficacy. There are ways around that such as putting the tablets into enteric-coated capsules so the Nardil survives the stomach and is released into the small intestine. Some compounding pharmacies will make up the old formulation of Nardil, although just yesterday a friend told me the compounding pharmacy he approached refused because (they claimed) the old formula was unstable and therefore the product would be unsafe. Many people find the new formula works just fine for them, but people do seem to be needing higher doses to achieve the same effect.

I think you might be downplaying the new formulation issue,to be fair there are hundreds now and have been who even created a committee to approach pzifer and failing.
Its a shame, tons upon tons of veteran users totaly stable on this drug now are in misery.
You are right as it was once considered a GOLD STANDERD for depression and anxiety, but now however the new formulation problem is more than minor but actualy horrid.
There is a product, plasmin plus to which u can insert it into encetric coated capsules which is said to help a great deal, however plasmin plus is one of the few products that use encentric coated capsules and the product is very expensive.
I personaly would have jumped on nardil, but the stories but solid 20 year users and new ones as well just dont make this drug plausable to me anymore.
Parnate as well if one notices seems to be loosing its postive reputation on boards and groups, which leaves me wondering if anything happened there during its transition to genric as well as its own change of brand.
Either way they are good options, just disappointing how i feel the super encourgaging benifit of them seems to have literaly been stolen from us by there makers.
This is the end of the thread.
