Researers belive this is due to damaged brain cells and that as time goes on it gets worse.That rapid cycling is caused by this.That it is all the same illness just diffrent phases of it.It is also seen in epilepcy,ocd and panic and maybe depression.One branch of research belives that the same genetic defect causes all of these illnesses and you do see them in bipolar .ACS.Anticonvulcents work on all of these illnesses.Bipolar and panic share the same gene.
