Larry,what is septal rage ?

Posted by Ron Jones on November 26, 2003, at 13:35:06

Does the amgdala cause it or the septal area. What are theta rythems and how do they the effect the hippocamus?Have read about The Orgasmic Brain?A doctor at Tulane University hocked up electrodes to the septal area and made people have orgasiums at will. Will you look at the BI polar Child book for me?It has very good info on the brain and bi polar illness.I do not know if you know what is in the book.Let me know if you do.It is very good stuff. Shows all the brain systems altered in bi polar illness .If you know this them you are the only one here who does.

It is an experience apparently restricted to rodents. In the limbic system, the amygdala and septal region interact. In some species, lesions of the septal region induce disinhibition of aggression. In other species, the opposite occurs. There is no evidence that I can find that septal rage occurs in the family of primates.

It takes both (and more). You can't isolate one area of the brain like that, and still make sense of how it all works together.

> What are theta rythems and how do they the effect the hippocamus?

Theta rhythms are a specific frequency of brain waves. Like part of a metronome in the brain. The interaction with the hippocampi is complex. Why do you ask?

> Have read about The Orgasmic Brain?A doctor at Tulane University hocked up electrodes to the septal area and made people have orgasiums at will.

All that shows is that orgasm is not a genital/spinal response. Direct stimulation of the brain can produce probably any experience you can imagine, and more you can't. That research occurred at a time that frontal lobotomies and such were still taking place. It's an historical aberration, and not an ethical practise under today's more enlightened standards.

I don't have the book, Ron. I'm not going to run out and read it.

That's not fair, Ron. Lot's of people know lots of stuff.
