5HTP? SJW? What to do...

Posted by Emme on December 21, 2003, at 19:15:13

Hi. Here's the situation.

I'm taking 350 mg Lamictal. I'm more consistent on it - less up and down and much fewer periods of miserable agitation. But I'm consistently down. Augmentation neeed.

The Lamictal seems to be stimulating to some degree, but it doesn't necessarily translate into energy and motivation. When I wake up in the a.m. my pulse is around 90. A while ago I had started atenolol to control physical symptoms of anxiety and when I take that in the morning it settles my body down. It would be nice if there were another way to do it.

With selegiline added: selegiline helps depression, better energy and motivation. But it's stimulating and wears me down and makes me edgy. I need to balance it out. Keppra didn't work, clonazepam and seroquel are helpful. But it would be nice if there were another alternative.

So...I'm thinking I'd like to try 5HTP for depression and anxiety. I'm wondering it this would be okay with selegiline, or if it would be sufficient without selegiline. (i.e. keep or ditch selegiline?) 5HTP would be calming, yes? I need to have motivation, but I don't want to be wired up. And what dosage should I think about? How soon does one see effects?

St. John's Wort with selegiline? Without? Does it sound appropriate for complementing Lamictal?

Thanks.
Emme
