last chance for alt meds, then I give...

Posted by cherylann on June 19, 2004, at 11:59:39

I bought some sjw. I took it years ago and it just increased my anxiety ten-fold. But, I also took what the bottle said, which was too much.
I've never done well on ssri's, and I understand that sjw works in the same way? I can't afford to get screwed up on something that will make me jittery or nervous.
The only meds that have worked for me in the past are sedating (doxepin, remeron). So, I'm thinking that sjw may not be a good idea. I've got to get back on something so I can live again.
In 2 weeks I've got a chance to visit family in Texas. At this moment I don't want to leave the house, let alone get in a plane and leave the state.
The hubby says just go back on the remeron, I'll still love you if you're chubby.
I've tried 5-htp, magnesium, gaba, fish oil (with some success), and sam-e. Everthing else would be too stimulating (heck I can't even eat dark chocolate I get so wired!), or too expensive.
I'm at my wits end.

I hope you're still using fish oil, then. Use what works.

You might want to give Rhodiola rosea a try. My own experience was paradoxical (the opposite of what you anticipate), but I have heard some very positive stories about it. Another option is an herb from India that goes by the name Ashwaghanda (Withania somniferum). The Latin name itself means "sleep making".

I've heard of both those herbs. Just the fact that there's something else out there to try gives me some hope.
I don't know what the heck is wrong with me, but yesterday I was so incredibly happy. That only happens when I'm on a good AD. Today it's back to normal. No, I'm not bi-polar. I really think it's all hormonal.
Thanks again,
