Hi Larry,
I am pretty new to pb. I remember reading some of your posts awhile back about TMG & tryrosine. I have begun taking 1000mg tyrosine & 2000mg TMG in the morning with breakfast. They seem to be having a nice effect. Energizing & upbeat without being wired and anxious. I am wondering what they act upon and if the doses that I am taking are too high or if I need to take a break from them from time to time. I would greatly appreciate any info.
Cheers,
nolagirl

I'm sure Larry will tell you as I got the information from him. Thanks Larry. He recommends you take L-Tyrosine on an empty stomach at least 20 minutes before any meal containing protein (and therefore competing amino acids). This gets it across the blood-brain barrier and thence is converted to norepinephrine and perhaps dopamine. Perhaps your breakfast doesn't contain much protein so it works anyway. I take 1.5 g twice a day and it seems energising but not anxiety-producing. About once a week I crash at about 8pm and have a long restful sleep. It seems possible to be sleepy and ready for bed but still energised. So bed-time reading to my small son is done at a good speed without my usual stumbling over words. Sorry I don't know what TMG is.
Good luck
Fred

> nolagirlTyrosine is a precursor to dopamine and norepinephrine. TMG is an indirect precursor to SAMe, and slightly more indirectly, to the mechanism that converts tyrosine to dopamine.
It may be wise to take breaks from this supplement regime, something on the order of three weeks on, one week off, as the body has an innate tendency to adjust to stable changes in its environment. That adjustment would reduce the effect of the supplement over time, and taking breaks from it would serve to inhibit adjustment to the constant intake.
I'm very glad this is working for you. Irritability is one possible sign that you might need to take a break from it, as well.

Thanks Larry and Fred,
I am treatment resistant depressive. After years of various ad's I began to suffer anhedonia - ugh! The tryosine and tmg are helping. I am also add and bi-polar. For the bi-polar I have found lithium orotate to work well with limited side - effects. I have been on it for a year and a half with nary a manic episode.I am so happy to have found pb. You all are a font of info and very helpful.
Cheers,
