Hi Larry, everyone, the short version is that I found that using Yohimbine 15mg/day to augment my antidepressants prozac 20 and wellbutrin 300, clomipramine 50, (&Abilify 15mg) has helped my depression immensely. In addition to ~ 4 cups coffee/day.
But something doesn't feel right with my heart. I have normal blood pressure, but the caffeine and yohimbine cause palpitations which is okay I guess? but my breathing is slightly shallow, ..
after reading FDA warnings that yohimbine can act as a MAO inhibitor, is bad for numerous conditions, including high blood pressure,.... Obviously the pharm. companies have a vested interest in discouraging herbs... but is there any chance yohimbine could be causing this cardiac sensation.
Is it safe to take... it's the only substance that has helped my treatment resistant MDD. Thanks so much for your input
Prozac 20mg 9:00
Wellbutrin SR 300 B.i.d.
Clomipramine 50mg 23:00
Abilify 15mg " "
Yohimbine 9mg morning, and 6 at & 14:00
~ 4 cups coffee/day

> BenYes, Ben, there is a likelihood that the yohimbine underlies the cardiac sensations. Whether you're naturally a 2D6 poor metabolizer or not, the Prozac inhibits 2D6, in any case. I didn't look further, as I'd already found a key determinant of yohimbine metabolism. There is an enhancement of the sympathetic nervous system with low 2D6 function, which could lead to palpitations.
They are probably innocuous, but I don't know anything about your medical history.
My recommendation is that you discuss the sensation/concerns with your doctor. You needn't even mention the yohimbine, IMHO. It might needlessly complicate the assessment. Blame it on the coffee?

I see an interaction between the coffee, clomipramine, and yohimbine.
Yohimbine is a MAO inhibitor as well as an alpha-2 adrenoreceptor antagonist I believe.
So, the coffee and yohimine are going to promote catecholamine release, and the yohimbine and clomipramine are going to prevent catecholamine degredation potentially creating palpititions.

> LinkadgeThanks Larry & Link.. I'll tell my doctor about the palpitations.... Link as I read your assessment of catecholamine potentiation and then prevention of degredation... it makes sense I have been getting more anxious. Thanks for alerting me to a possible interaction. I understand yohimbine has a narrow window of therapeutic benefit. Causing anxiety above the top end, today I only took about 4.5mg of it.. Tks for the feedback

Yohimbe! Gives me instant panic, makes me burn and prickle all over and slobber!!
Awful crap for me.
Took one accidentally once thinking it was a soma for sleep.
Guess what? Got no sleep that night!
I swear my mouth is watering just thinking about it.Yikes!
