I am bipolar and I take fish oils and borage oil to complement my medication. I think there may be differences in brands of borage oils out there. I first tried Solgar's mega-gla 300mg, and it did help me with energy when used with the fish oils. It has a strong affect, at least in the beginning. Then I tried Source Naturals brand of mega-gla 300 borage oil. This product seems to be more smoother acting and more predictable, and I like it a whole lot more. The odd thing is that the Solgar brand and Source Naturals basically have the same ingredients, but I swear the Source Naturals brand is more "smoother" in its action. And Source Naturals is about half the price of the Solgar brand. So if any of you out there are thinking about trying borage oil/fish oil combination to help with depression, I would recommend the Source Naturals brand borage oil. I get it from a website called house of nutrition. They are good about getting your order to you relatively quickly, 2-3 days. Hope this info. is helpful.

I had the same experience, I found the Solgar "Super GLA 300" to be way less effective than the much cheaper " NOW" brand. The difference was very noticeable...
I guess more expensive is not always better..

This is the added complication with supplementation. Pharmaceutical drugs whilst having varying degrees of activity depending on the person, can be relied on for actually having active ingredients. When you buy any supplement it's very difficult to know if supplements have active ingredients, you also have to factor in the placebo effect as you would with pharmaceutical drugs. I'm no big fan of pharmaceutical drugs though, also supplementation will be strongly resisted by these companies so it's always going to be difficult to get any standardisation for supplements.

The other thing I briefly wanted to mention was Solgar, you see this brand in all major health stores, it's an expensive brand and it gains an air of respect beyond it's station in my experience. Even I am misguided in to trying Solgar supplements time and time again with no effect. I'm wondering if they're just a hyped placebo brand. Just my experience.

can you tell me what effects you have from the GLA? I currently take fish oil but can only tolerate very tiny doses before my immune system is affected in a negative way. I was thinking maybe GLA would help with that.
