Risks associated with peppermint tea

Posted by NKP on January 9, 2010, at 15:10:52

I've read on the internet that drinking peppermint tea regularly may reduce testosterone levels. If you're a man, this could be a bad thing, for example, you could go bald or grow breasts etc.

But as is often the case with information on the internet, I don't know how to interpret it all in a balanced context.

Does anybody know anything about this?

Don't know the answer to this. Tried a little searching but came away unsure, like you. Seems there is some evidence, but it's not really strong. I think that it's probably OK to have the tea once in a while but you probably want to avoid drinking it every day.

By the way, I've read that licorice can lower testosterone too. I think it's bad to have too much anyway because it can affect blood pressure.

its less about 'reducing testosterone' than the mint has some estrogen receptor agonists. though lots of food does.
