Gotu Kola and Rosemary

Does anyone have any experiences with these in terms of alleviating depression? Gotu Kola sounds promising, though I'm a little wary of the effect on the liver.

I think that gotu is better for depression than rosemarry. I think rosemarry is more for anxiety.

Gotu has the ability to raise monoamines (according to one study, but unspecified mechanism...i.e. MAOI?), rosemarry has effects on gaba (via gaba transaminase) and acetylcholinsterase.

I never got a clear picture of the effect of gotu on the liver. I wish there was more research done.

After a few days taking a low-dose of gotu kola, the effects remind me of a subtle blend of gingko and ashwagandha. A slight "sharpness" mentally and a little muscle-relaxing. I'm definitely going to continue it, and maybe switch to rhodiola for the "two-weeks off" period everyone suggests to avoid liver issues.

After a week of gotu kola, I've decided to take a break. I was taking it for stress, but it started to feel like when I took it I actually became more stressed. I know that I am dealing with a lot of stress now anyway, but it felt like it exacerbated this, not helped. So I'm trying some rhodiola now to see if this can give me a boost without making me feel like I want to strangle everybody. I think I will try gotu kola again, perhaps a different dosage at a different time because I did notice some benefits (I never felt depressed on it, which was goodI'd take irritability over depression any day).
